Safeguarding Policy
Last updated: March 2026
TheTutorLink is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people who use our platform. This policy sets out our approach to safeguarding and our expectations of tutors, students, and parents.
Our Commitment
We take the safety of children seriously. Tutors on TheTutorLink who work with under-18s are expected to:
- Hold an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate for work with children, or be actively pursuing one
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times
- Conduct online sessions in appropriate environments
- Never request personal information from students beyond what is needed for tutoring
- Report any safeguarding concerns immediately
DBS Checks
TheTutorLink encourages all tutors working with children to obtain an Enhanced DBS check. Tutors can display their DBS status on their profile. Parents should always check a tutor’s DBS status before booking, particularly for in-person sessions.
The Disclosure and Barring Service can be contacted at gov.uk/dbs.
Online Session Safety
All platform sessions are conducted via built-in video on TheTutorLink. We recommend:
- Parents of younger children are present or nearby during online tutoring sessions
- Sessions take place in a shared family area of the home, not in a child’s bedroom
- Parents have access to the platform messaging history
How to Report a Concern
If you have a safeguarding concern — about a tutor’s behaviour, inappropriate communication, or any other child safety issue — please contact us immediately:
- Email: hello@thetutor.link (mark the subject line SAFEGUARDING)
- In an emergency: Call 999
- NSPCC helpline: 0808 800 5000
- Childline: 0800 1111
All safeguarding concerns are treated seriously and investigated promptly. We will cooperate fully with any statutory investigation by police or social services.
Tutor Responsibilities
Tutors are required to be aware of the signs of abuse and neglect and to report any concerns about a student’s welfare to TheTutorLink and, where appropriate, to the relevant statutory authority. Tutors should also be aware of their responsibility to protect their own professional reputation by maintaining clear boundaries and keeping records of communications.
Updates
This policy is reviewed annually. For questions or concerns, contact hello@thetutor.link.
