How Can Behavior Affect Academics For Students? Let’s Find Out Here!

Can Student Behaviour Affect His Academic Performance?

The answer to the question is yes. If a student behaves well, he will be able to focus on his studies and complete them successfully.

But if a student misbehaves in class or at home, it can affect his academic performance negatively.

The teacher has an important role to play here because she must set clear rules of conduct for her students that are expected by all.

In addition, teachers should also consider their own proper behavior when they interact with the disruptive students.

They too need to follow these same guidelines as those given to the students. It is very difficult to teach good discipline without having proper classroom management skills.

A good school administrator can help in this process through providing guidance to teachers about how to handle different situations efficiently.

In this article, I am going to explain the childhood behavior that can affect academic performance and exactly what to do to improve behavioural patterns.

Common negative Behavioural traits

Let’s look first at some common persistent behavior:

  • Lack of attention
  • Inappropriate dress/grooming habits
  • Wearing dirty clothes and messy hair.
  • Poor study habits – late work assignments, poor time-management skills.
  • Poor social behavior skills – lack of interest in others, being rude, not showing respect and arguing during discussions.
  • Lack of self-control — engaging in unacceptable online learning activities such as smoking, alcohol consumption, drug use, gambling, sex outside marriage, lying, cheating, stealing, vandalism and fighting.
  • Disrespectful attitude towards authority figures
  • Talking back, shirking responsibilities, disrespecting elders, disobedience, refusing to obey orders from parents o teachers, etc.

Reasons behind Students poor Academic Performance

Some of these reasons include:

1. Poor study habits. Students who lack discipline have trouble concentrating on their studies.

2. Lack of motivation. They don’t show up for classes regularly and often skip lessons. When asked why they did so, many people say they find studying boring and would rather spend more time playing games online or watching TV shows.

3. Unreliable attendance record. Some people just cannot stick to any schedule. This means missing deadlines, failing exams, missing out on opportunities, losing jobs, and causing problems for themselves.

What Should you do to Improve Behavioural Patterns?

Aggressive behavior patterns are how people behave in their daily lives. This includes things like what they eat, how often they work out, how much sleep they get, etc.

When these things aren’t happening regularly, they could be disruptive behavior problems.

A child who does not take good care of himself or herself will show poor behavioural patterns. These can be corrected through proper guidance at home or outside school.

Here are some tips to keep your children healthy both physically & mentally:

  • Eat well balanced meals every day. If possible, include fruits and vegetables along with protein and carbohydrates. Try to avoid eating junk food between meals.
  • Include exercise in your routine; try walking or running instead of sitting around while doing nothing. Exercise helps them stay fit and burns calories which increases energy levels and improves mood.
  • Get enough rest each night. Sleeping well contributes to overall health.
  • Avoid drinking caffeine after 3pm. Caffeine affects concentration and leads to fatigue.
  • Stay away from cigarettes and other forms of tobacco. Smoking causes lung cancer and heart disease. Also, nicotine itself makes people feel bad.
  • Choose nutritious snacks over sugary ones.

Why do students lose interest in studies?

The main reason students lose interest in studies are due to lack of knowledge and skills required to complete their course successfully.

They fail to understand what they have been taught or how they must apply these things to get a desired result.

The best way to overcome this situation is to study of children thoroughly and learn the basic concepts first.

Then gradually increase the amount of information being studied. This would enable one to retain the material learnt during studying sessions.

In addition, a student needs to practise his/her ability to solve problems and develop effective communication skill. He/she should also know how to use appropriate methods to manage stress effectively.

Doing homework consistently every day is another factor contributing towards development of academic interests among students.

Doing homework daily enables students to gain adequate understanding of the subject matter. Furthermore, they gain confidence in themselves and become self-motivated learners.

How to Motivate Students?

Motivation has become a very vital part of education since the beginning of this century. The purpose of motivating students is to make sure they have what it takes to complete their course work successfully.

Teachers use various techniques to motivate students. Some techniques used are rewards, praise, punishment, competition and giving information. Here are some techniques teacher involvement can apply to motivate students:

Reward students for accomplishing tasks/behaviour. This technique motivates students towards reaching targets set by themselves or by parents.

Rewards could either be tangible like money, toys, clothes or intangible such as compliments. However, one ensure that reward doesn’t affect student performance negatively.

Praise students whenever they do things correctly or  well-behaved children appropriately. Praise boosts self esteem, resulting in improved motivation and academic achievement.

It also works to increase social skills in students.

Conclusion

It is best to study early and to study consistently. Fortunately, students can harness the power of their brain and learn to study more efficiently and effectively.

With time and practice, you can learn how to study better and ace your exams — and get good grades — without burning out.

If students have a better understanding of their emotions and behavior, they will be able to overcome their weaknesses
